Know what to expect before your estate sale.
These are the questions families often ask before a walkthrough. Your written agreement confirms the scope, fees, schedule, and payment arrangements for your project.
Before you decide
Straightforward answers.
Learn about commission, preparation, payment, and the belongings that remain after a sale.
Do I pay anything upfront for an estate sale?
No. There is no upfront client cost for our estate sale service. Labor, staging, photography, and advertising are included in our commission. Haul-away after donation, if needed, is the only separate estate sale service charge.
Is your commission calculated on gross or net sales?
Our usual commission is 45–50% of net sales. The gross total includes sales tax and card fees collected from shoppers. Those amounts are excluded before the remaining net sales are split between you and 916 Estate Sales at the agreed rate.
What sales records will I receive?
We record sales by category using Square. After the sale, you receive a printed report showing category totals, cash and card payments, and gross and net totals. The net sales total is the basis for calculating your share and our commission.
What is your estate sale commission?
Our usual commission is 45–50% of net sales. Collected sales tax and shopper-paid card fees are excluded before the split. Labor, staging, photography, and advertising are included, with no upfront client cost. The only separate estate sale service charge is haul-away after donation, if needed. We confirm your rate in writing.
When will we receive the sale proceeds?
Clients can receive proceeds as soon as three days after the sale. The payment schedule for your project is confirmed in your agreement.
What happens to unsold items?
We plan for donation of remaining belongings. Haul-away after donation, if needed, is the only separate estate sale service charge. We discuss the scope and cost with you.
How do I know if an estate sale is worth doing?
Start with a walkthrough. We look at the home, the amount and type of belongings, the timeline, access, and your goals. If a sale makes sense, we explain the plan. If it does not, we can talk through cleanout or other next-step options.
What does your estate sale service include?
Our commission includes labor, organizing, staging, pricing, photography, advertising, and sale management. There is no upfront client cost. Afterward, you receive a printed sales report; haul-away after donation is a separate service if needed.
Do you help families with inherited homes?
Yes. Many families call during probate, trust administration, downsizing, relocation, or after a loss. We keep the process steady, respectful, and organized.
Can you help after the sale is finished?
Yes. We can discuss donation and haul-away options for unsold belongings and help coordinate the next steps. Your agreement confirms who handles the work, what is included, and any additional costs.
How long does preparation take?
We usually plan about two weeks before the sale: roughly one week to organize, stage, and create photos and video, followed by about a week of advertising, including social media. Sales sometimes run three to four days. We confirm your project’s schedule after the walkthrough.
